Young Doctor Gurney

The providential vision of one man.

They are too difficult!’ was the reply. Lionel Gurney, a young medical
doctor working in the Middle East in the 1940s had asked why Muslim
people were largely ignored by Christian agencies.

In 1943 he heard God’s call and began to share his vision of
reaching out to these challenging people. The first meeting of what
was soon to be called the ‘Red Sea Mission Team’ was held in 1952.

Its motto: ‘Islam Shall Hear’ – a proclamation of bold faith that Muslims
everywhere would hear the Gospel.

The main focus of our agency was to ‘sow the seed’, trusting God for
the results. God has given us the privilege of working together with Him to bring His Gospel of salvation to unreached people groups among Muslims, serving them in practical ways, and seeing many come to faith in Jesus Christ.
